UAN0001
Boomkat
“The first in a series of mysterious releases courtesy of London's anti-capitalist sm-ll imprint, this one's a heavy duty acidic modular thizzer that sounds like Pan Sonic, Goem or Pita hotwiring hard dance patches using broken car stereo equipment. Grinding alt-bumps fer the dedicated minimalists.
There's precious little info about this one - each release in the series is listed only by its UAN catalog number - but a bit of web sleuthing leads us to Finnish sound designer and Superpang alum Atte Elias Kantonen. Following last year's 25-track modular behemoth "noodles", "UAN0001" sounds as if it's likely a series of systemische experiments, but rather than explore freeform synth meandering, Kantonen fixes his focus on the possibilities of undulating rhythms.
Each lengthy track is an exercise in fine tuning - the beats evolve rather than change perceptibly. Opener 'Krakowian' lets fast kicks take a back seat to searing, squelchy glitches; 'Relay Mix' sounds like a game of table tennis at Berghain; 'Battery Acid 3 Plus' is "Analord" via Alva Noto; and 'Legs - Indexes' zeroes in on polyrhythmic, head-mashing minimalist psychedelia.
Our pick is the lengthy closer 'A Full Cycle in Half' - it sounds as if it might erupt into a huge break at any point, and never does. That's dedication for you. If you think Container and Sleeparchive are too maximalist, and pine for Sähko's glory days, Kantonen has you covered.”

“it's great when something that your friends do really excites you, I love the direction the label is going in, proving you can do so much with so little
Battery Acid 3+ is just stunning Favorite track: Battery Acid 3+.”

This release fits like a glove to the overall aesthetic, minimal, repetitive and straight forward.
